Google Buying Video Game Ad Firm?

Comments

yep, that's the plan. And its not just Google doing it, everyone in the mobile and wireless space is moving towards monetizing via ad revenue. Verizon, MobiTV and others made ad insertion announcements at CES this year...as the phone gets more powerful so follows the ad revenue, as video gaming becomes more ubiquitous across devices, so follows the ad revenue...its a sad state of affairs, but true
You know how they use something similar to green screen to insert ads into sporting events? Like the grassy areas at auto races or the wall behind the batter in baseball games... you know what I speak of?

How long before background surfaces/objects in movies are brokered for real time ad insertion - rather than (in addition to?) the current product placements?
mmm. never thought of that. I doubt it would happen in many movies for artistic reasons and the movie theatre owners would raise a stink as it would degrade the ticket buyers expereince...they have already been complaining about the lack of quality in recent movies as the reason ticket sales are down. (i put to the rise of movies available on demand, netflix etc.) Also the Screen Actors Guild is in the fight for revenues for their union members (actors) from product placements. But the technology exists and we may see some creative uses of it that work with the story of the movie as a first step.
agreed - with the decline in viewership, and timeshifting of programs by TIVO, advertisers are going to have to get really smart with their ad dollars. it's too easy to to bypass the ads on TV, and to compete with emedia ads (that offer detailed results), TV execs have to change their model. Trust google to get in on the TV revenue stream. I'll bet Microsoft and AOL/Time Warner are gonna be kicking themselves once again.
